    Ranked game victory

    Arctic refuge supreme commander map

Alright - my win streak is 3 so far, but this map is just brutal in ranked games. There's so much open ground to cover that you have to have an almost endless supply of air scouts available just to keep an eye on the game. My opponent was obviously a noob, but even still he surprised me by whipping up T3 Siege bots (Cybran) while I was still more or less in tech 1. Since the damned map is so big, it was hard to find the siege bots coming across the map, and then dealing with them once I found them. I'd send attack orders for nearby armies - who then lost the unit on the map - only to have it pop back up on radar past my force.

Oh well. Next time I'll remember to whip up a radar install in the center of my base. As it stood, I was able to start swarming T3 Siege bots on his base from multiple directions. Not much to stop me.

For the middle of your base, you'll probably want T2, so it has the range to give you a reasonable warning time. Don't forget a T2 power generator to reduce the operation costs!

Word. Honestly, sometimes I forget that this map is 10x10. It feels smaller for some reason, so I don't play with the traditional radar posts, etc. I rely way too much on hordes of scout planes, but in the end all it takes are a couple Cybran T1 mobile AA to make my patrols null and void. This really is a visibility-based map though. I think the more you know about what your enemy is up to, the more likely you are to be able to parry and defend your base while encroaching on his.

I had a lot of T1 ground scouts in place, but unfortunately their range wasn't enough to cover all the areas that I needed. This may actually be one of the few maps I'd consider building walls around or near my main base - that way at least an incoming enemy could be funneled to a few known points rather than walking in wherever he liked.
